Spring Garden

A couple of weeks ago we started our spring garden. We've put in 4 cherry tomatoes, 4 full-size tomatoes, and 2 bell peppers. We're doubling the numbers of tomato plants compared to last year and trying bell peppers for the first time.
Last year we weren't as diligent about watering as we should have been, so our goal for this year keep the plants from frying in the Texas heat. Hopefully they'll reward us with lots of yummy tomatoes :) I've seen a lot of recipes featuring fresh tomatoes lately that I'd like to try this summer. We're trying else new this year. Have you seen the commercials for the Topsy Turvy Tomato Grower? I've been intrigued by them for a while. Last year my dad ordered me a pair for my birthday but they were on back-order and didn't arrive until the end of the summer. We planted a cherry tomato plant in each one, and they looked great hanging from the patio.
The day after I took this photo, we found the one of the left completely dead. The weather had been really windy and I guess it just snapped the stem. We plan on replacing it soon.
These planters might look a little cheesy, but if they grow good tomatoes I don't care!
