Port Aransas trip

Last week we enjoyed a great trip down to Port Aransas for a mini-vacation. The Texas coast might not be Florida or the Caribbean, but it's only 3 1/2 hours from San Antonio and it's a great place to spend a few days relaxing at the beach.
We went through Corpus on our way down and got to visit Jon's sister Christina. She took us to the Texas State Aquarium using her season pass and we enjoyed the otters, stingrays, dolphins and turtles.



Our first night in Port Aransas we ate at Port Aransas Brewing Company. Jon enjoyed the beer and we both liked their crab-stuffed jalepeno poppers and pizza.



The next day we went on a dolphin tour. Just outside the marina we were already seeing dolphins, including some females with their calves. Very cool. It was my favorite part of the trip.





It wouldn't be a beach vacation without some times spent splashing in the waves. There were tons of fish jumping in and out of the waves right around us and both of us even got hit by fish several times each. The water was very murky so you never knew when one was going to brush past your leg.


That night we took a 2 hour night-walk on the beach. We even got to go out on the jetty for free since it was the first day of summer and they waived the fee. Nothing beats walking on the beach to cap off a great mini-vacation. Thanks, Dad, for the vacation gift package.
