Two great TV shows

I've recently stumbled across 2 great shows. Both are documentaries, but neither are boring. They show the real-life, behind-the-scenes world of 2 dramatic environments. If you are looking to watch a show with substance, set your DVR for one or both of them.

ABC's Boston Med follows the staff at 3 Boston-area hospitals. Each episode focuses on a few nurses, doctors, and patients. One of the stories in last week's episode showed the pregnant wife of a deployed marine whose unborn baby had a life-threatening heart condition. Who needs Gray's Anatomy when the real-life drama is just as intense? Boston Med is on Thursdays at 9pm

PBS's Carrier shows life onboard the Navy aircraft carrier USS Nimitz as they go on a 6-month deployment ending in the Middle East. Keeping such a big ship afloat and in good working order is a lot of work! There are interviews with men and women from across the spectrum of the ship, from the lowly window-washers to the commander of the fighter pilots. Watching this show makes me think about my good friend Alex who is currently deployed on the USS Harry Truman.
