We started the day by tubing the Comal River from Landa Falls Tubes. The river was running smoothly and it wasn't too crowded. The cool water felt great under the hot sun. We had so much fun the first time we decided to go for a second run. Lesson learned that day: the 2nd run is never as good as the first. The river was 3 times as crowded, the sunscreen was inadequate, and Jon's dad Jim (who was tethered to the tube with the cooler) got sucked into a whirlpool-thing and was separated from the group for about 15 minutes. Nevertheless we had fun doing it all together and have some great stories to tell.
That night we got treated to a feast of appetizers and pizza at our favorite brew-pub Freetail. We tried an alfredo pizza with bacon and asparagus that tasted absurdly good. We also had a Greek-style pizza with olives and feta that we want to re-create at home.
Who needs to leave town for family vacation when there's so much to do right down the road?
