Saturday we took our first day trip with baby to the town of Fredericksburg, VA. Fredericksburg is a town about 45 miles south of DC known for it's civil war history, cute downtown shopping district, vineyards and breweries. Our destination was Blue and Gray Brewing Co for a free brewery tour.
Jon has toured many breweries over the years, and he said this one was the smallest he's toured. Despite it's small size, he declared their beer delicious. I even liked ones of the samples I tried, a stout which tasted more like coffee than beer! (which says a lot coming from someone who doesn't drink beer)
One of the head brewers uses a wheelchair, so the kettle room was both wheelchair- and stroller-friendly. Jackson spent the whole time just sleeping in his stroller.
After the tour we ate at the attached brewpub. Jon got a Ruben, and I had one of the juiciest burgers I've ever eaten. Delicious.
Following our visit to Blue and Gray we walked around downtown Fredericksburg. Jackson was ready to explore- he loved perching on our shoulders as we walked and pointed out everything he was seeing. He got to see a cat and horse for the first time (no touching yet!). Jackson is definitely a curious little boy.
The day was topped off by a trip to Sonic Drive-In for slushies. How I've missed Sonic's slushy goodness since leaving Texas!
Over the course of the day we made two trips to Babies R Us. We didn't buy anything, but I used their "Mother's Room" to feed and change Jackson. It was very convenient and comfortable.
It was a great Saturday. Everyone tells us to take advantage of the fact that our baby is still very "portable", because soon it will be more difficult to take him out. I'd like to return to Fredericksburg in the future to visit one of their vineyards.
