Maryland Crab

We couldn't live in DC for two years without sampling Maryland's famous blue crabs. My friend Lauren suggested Mike's, a crabhouse in nearby Annapolis. The restaurant is located right on the water, which was really beautiful this weekend. They have a large deck, and even from our table inside we could see the water.

We ordered an appetizer of assorted steamed seafood: mussels, clams, oysters, and shrimp. The shrimp were my favorite part of the whole meal.
Then came out the entree: a half dozen medium crab. It was our first time eating crab so the waiter showed us how to crack open the shells to get to the succulent meat inside. The crabs were coated with a generous coating of Old Bay seasoning, and served with vinegar, melted butter, and more Old Bay.
Our delicious spread. We also got a side dish of hush puppies, which turned out to be the most delicious hush puppies I've ever eaten.
Jackson did great, sitting in his car seat for most of the meal. Eating crabs is messy, so I'm glad he didn't want to be picked up until I was just finishing my meal. Running to the bathroom to wash hands was a must before touching him.

I'm glad Jon and I were able to take part in this local tradition and sample Maryland crab. Jon and I both agreed that they taste great but a lot of work! It reminded me of eating crawfish back in Texas.
Our other "first" of the trip. We got to change Jackson not once but twice in the truck of the car. It actually makes a pretty good changing area! The second time was in the parking lot of a Sonic Drive-In. Too bad the closest Sonic is 45 minutes from our house.
