Protecting Our Borders

This weekend I went to Del Rio for a CMDA Mission Trip. The trip went really well and we served a lot of people. On the drive home things got a little interesting...
I carpooled with a recent UTHSCSA graduate and two international students from my class. Since we weren't crossing the border into Mexico no one brought their passports. About 1.5 hrs outside of Del Rio on eastbound US 90 we were stopped at a routine Border Patrol checkpoint. The agents asked if we were all US citizens. Two of us were and two weren't. The agents then asked for our identification. One of my classmates, here on a student visa, didn't have her papers with her. We were then lectured for 15 min about how this was "in violation" of some law or another while another agent looked up her visa information in the office. Luckily we weren't detained, although the officers weren't afraid to tell us several times that we could have been. I think the fact that we were dental students coming back from a mission trip definitely helped our case and made the agents more lenient on us.
In the end everything worked out and we know the agents were just doing their jobs of protecting our borders.
