A Delicious Saturday Afternoon

Some of the best bar-b-que in the nation is just 1.5 hrs from San Antonio. Don't take my word for it- the Travel Channel has named The Salt Lick Restaurant in Driftwood, TX the tastiest barbeque in America. Jon, his parents, and I headed up to Driftwood for a delicious lunch yesterday on our way to visit family in Austin. As soon as you step out of the car you are surrounded by the enticing aroma of smoked meat. We had to wait 30 minutes to be seated but the wait was well worth it. Everything was great- the brisket, sausage, pork ribs, and smoked turkey were moist and flavorful, as were the sides (potato salad, cole slaw, and beans) that perfectly complemented the meat. My chopped beef sandwich, stuffed with brisket, was served on soft, homemade bread that was perfect for sopping up loads of sauce.

Next time you're heading to Austin make a detour to Driftwood and you won't be disappointed! My advice- arrive early on the weekends, bring cash (no credit cards accepted), alcohol is BYOB, and bring your appetite!
