37 Weeks Pregnant

How far along? 37 weeks, 6 days. 37 weeks means that if I went into labor today it would not be pre-term. So the baby could make his appearance any time in the next month! The baby hasn't "dropped" yet (I'm still carrying him pretty high) so I have a feeling he won't be coming too soon. But we'll see!

Total weight gain/loss: 22.5 lbs.My appetite is still hearty, but my stomach can't hold very much food anymore. After eating a normal-sized meal I feel full to the point of sickness. I need to adjust to small, frequent meals.

Maternity clothes? Last week I bought 2 pairs of size L elastic workout shorts at the thrift store for $5. They've been a lifesaver; working out in capris is just too hot now that it's officially summer. When I need to get dressed up I'm loving dresses and skirts- they are so much more comfortable than pants.

Stretch marks? None yet. Fingers crossed.

Sleep: Last weekend I found a full-body pregnancy pillow at a yard sale and snapped it up for $3. I've been able to get much more comfortable! Definitely a good buy. Unfortunately it seems to trap in all my body heat and I get really hot at night. Before being very preggo I was the one who would get cold and Jon is the hotbox; being pregnant has reversed that and now I'm asking Jon to turn the AC down at night.

Low point of week: Having to take off my wedding ring one afternoon when my hands started swelling up :(  I was taking a guided tour of the Pentagon with my co-residents (very cool, by the way) and I guess all that walking made the fluid pool in my hands. Luckily on days when I'm seeing patients my wedding band has stayed on.

Movement: I don't have to worry about fetal kick counts with this one! According to the experts the baby should move 10 times per hour; when I start counting his movements it usually only takes 5 minutes to get to 10.

Cravings: I would love to go to Taco Cabana right now. I even looked up their locations online to see if there were any within a 100 mile radius, but sadly the closest one is in Atlanta. I did make some great Mexican-style shredded beef this week, but the store-bought tortillas left something to be desired. I might be craving Tex-Mex so bad because for the past month or so I've sworn off anything that gives me heartburn, especially spicy foods and tomatoes. This has really cut down on my heartburn but is a little bland for my tastebuds.

Labor Signs: None yet, thank goodness! Unlike some moms-to-be I'm not miserable yet so I have no desire for this baby to come early. There are still quite a few things I want to get done around the house and at work before the baby comes. Hopefully he cooperates!

What I miss: Going about my day unnoticed. I'm at the point where everyone I see (strangers at the grocery store, on the walking trail, ect) want to know
"how much longer?"

Also- I would love a nice cold sangria. Quite a few restaurants around here have had sangria specials, and they all look so appealing!

What I am looking forward to: Getting to know our little guy and discover his personality!

Other preparations: This weekend I swept and mopped at the floors, made a bunch of freezer meals for our first few weeks with baby, and packed our hospital bags. I also did a few other things that I won't have a chance to do with a newborn: we went out to eat with friends and slept in.

What about Dad?: For the past 10 days Jon's been working furiously on sanding and staining 4 bookshelves that he bought in Lancaster, PA a few months back. Yesterday he finished the last coat of varnish; now they need to hang out in our garage for a week so they can dry completely before being brought upstairs to the office. Once they come upstairs we'll need to spend a day re-organizing everything onto the new shelves- I'm not looking forward to that.
